Hi, I'm Adam Critchley

I appreciate you taking the time to explore my website! 

I have lived and trained in the Northeast since 1996 and I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne with my wife and three children.

Since 2013 I have worked and previously led the specialist Newcastle Breast Centre based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. I offer bespoke private surgery and clinic appointments at the Nuffield Hospital in Jesmond, Newcastle.

The RVI breast unit is the largest breast screening and training unit in the North East and 12th highest volume breast cancer unit in the UK.

The 2018 GIRFT (‘Get It Right First Time’) reported us an ‘exemplar service’. I was the Head of Department from 2020-2023. I have looked after nearly 2000 breast cancer patients during my career.

I am a Co-Course Director for the Association of Breast Surgery Level 1 Oncoplastic Breast Course (2 days) held annually in Bristol. I am the Deputy Course Director for the National Oncoplastic Fellowship (TIG) 2 day workshop held at the Freeman Hospital each year, having been Course Director for 7 years. I train regional trainees and national fellows. I am an Assigned Educational Supervisor to trainees at all levels. I have also given invited lectures to regional GPs and the Breast Cancer Now charity.

I am a Key Opinion Leader in my specialty and have frequently been invited to contribute my knowledge to focus groups or lectures for 3M (surgical dressings), Motiva (Breast Implants), Mentor (Breast Implants), Acelity, BARD and Sirius Medical (Cancer localisation).

I have been asked to advise on product design for surgical instruments – Elemental Healthcare (lit retractor) and UK Surgical Instruments.

I play an active role in clinical research as Primary Investigator (PI) for nationally funded (NIHR) clinical trials. I have published over 30 articles covering breast disease and treatments, all in peer reviewed journals.

You can meet me in person or over the phone at one of my cosmetic or rapid access clinics where I offer a comprehensive “one stop” assessment service for patients experiencing a new breast symptom.
