How are breast implants measured?

Volume

Breast implants come in a variety of sizes, but they aren’t measured the same way as breasts and bras. Instead, you’ll see the measurement ‘cc’, which stands for cubic centimetres and refers to the implant’s volume. This is a universal measurement, which makes it more accurate than cup sizes, which can vary depending on different bra and clothing companies.

Generally, for every 150-200cc, you can expect to go up around 1-1.5 cup sizes. However, results can vary depending on your natural body shape, so it’s best to get a consultation with a breast surgeon to help work out how to pick the right size breast implant for the aesthetic you want.

As an example, if you chose breast implants with a volume of 150-170cc, they could take an A cup up to a B cup. For a bigger increase of A to C, you might want to go for breast implants with a volume of 300-350cc. But to go from a D to an E cup, you may need 450-600cc breast implants.

Diameter

Volume is only one aspect to consider when it comes to choosing your breast implant size. It’s also important to take diameter into account. This is the width of the implant, and you’ll find the best diameter for you depends on your chest width, where your breasts naturally sit, and the shape of your implants.

Profile

Then there’s your breast implant profile, which refers to how far the implants protrude (or ‘project’ from your chest), this will affect how big they appear.

  • Low-profile implants sit closest to your body and tend to give a more subtle look.
  • Medium-profile implants project out a little more to give a fuller appearance but still create a natural look.
  • For a more dramatic increase, you might want high-profile implants which protrude more, creating a more distinct look. These breast implants tend to increase cleavage and don’t look as natural as low or medium-profile alternatives.

What is the most common size breast implant?

Breast implants with a volume of around 200-400cc are the most popular. Remember — these can look very different depending on your body shape as well as whether you go for low, medium, or high-profile implants.

How to choose the correct breast implant size and shape for you

A consultation with breast surgeon, Adam, will help you work out which size of breast implant is right for you. Here are a few areas that you should keep in mind, Adam will go over these with you in your initial consultation appointment.

Consider your frame

Your height, shoulder width, and overall body proportions all influence how your implants will look and feel. Adam will consider these aspects during your consultation to recommend the best size and shape.
